เด็กไทยเริ่มสัมผัสสื่อออิเล็กทรอนิกส์เฉลี่ย 1 เดือน (IQR 0-3 เดือน) ซึ่งเป็นช่วงวิกฤตของการพัฒนาสมอง พฤติกรรมใช้สื่อหลายชนิดพร้อมกัน (SMM) สูงถึง 43.2%–68.2% ของเด็กเล็ก ซึ่งส่งผลกระทบต่อสมองส่วนหน้าและทักษะการบริหารจัดการตนเอง การวิจัยพบผลกระทบในหลายมิติ ได้แก่
• เด็กที่เริ่มดูสื่อก่อน 12 เดือนและใช้เกิน 2 ชั่วโมงต่อวัน มีความเสี่ยงภาษาล่าช้าสูงถึง 6 เท่า
• การใช้สื่อสูงสัมพันธ์กับพฤติกรรมก้าวร้าวและต่อต้าน
• การใช้สื่อเกิน 7 ชั่วโมงต่อวันทําให้พฤติกรรมช่วยเหลือสังคมลดลง
• การใช้สื่อหลัง 19.00 น. ลดเวลานอน 28 นาทีต่อคืน หรือ 170 ชั่วโมงต่อปี
• การใช้โซเชียลมีเดียสูงสัมพันธ์กับปริมาตรสมองส่วน Hippocampus, Caudate และ Thalamus ที่ลดลง
สื่อส่งผลกระทบต่อสมองผ่านสองกลไก คือ การกระตุ้นระบบโดปามีนรวดเร็วและรุนแรงนําสู่ภาวะดื้อโดปามีนและพฤติกรรมเสพติด และการใช้สื่อหลายชนิดพร้อมกัน (SMM) ทําให้ Inhibitory Control และ Working Memory บกพร่อง ผลกระทบมีความสัมพันธ์รุนแรงขึ้นเมื่อเริ่มใช้สื่อก่อน 2 ปี
